Winker will redirect the requester to the specified URL and log both the URL and the comment.
Why would I want to do this?
============================
Imaging that you run a web site and you have sponsors. Your sponsors want you to tell them how often visitors click on their ads. You put a link like the following into each of your HTML documents:
Whenever a visitor clicks on a sponsor's ad, it is recorded in Winker's log, and the user is taken to http://www.sponsor.com.
Anything else I can use it for?
===============================
You get the general idea, but you may want to use Winker to track movement within your site. If you want to find out how people generally get to a particular page, simply use Winker on each page that refers to the page of interest. By examining Winker's log, you can understand your visitors' browsing patterns.
By the way, Winker can be on a different machine than the rest of your site. For example, Icognitive Systems runs Winker on a Mac running MacHTTP while the rest of its web site is stored on Web Communications' server (at <http://www.webcom.com/icog>).
So what do you want from me?
============================
Basically, I want $10 from you if you use Winker. Use the included Register application or send a check for US$10 made out to Icognitive Systems, Inc. and send it to:
Icognitive Systems, Inc.
308 S. Pennsylvania Avenue
North Wales, PA 19454
And do I get anything more than a clear conscience for this $10?
Yes. I am currently working on Winker Pro, which uses FileMaker Pro for record keeping, allowing you to easily create reports from the information Winker Pro collects. When it is released, it will cost $25, but if you register Winker before April 1st, 1996, you will become a registered Winker Pro user automatically. Beginning April 1st, an upgrade from Winker to Winker Pro will cost $15.
Yeah. While I've tried hard to make Winker as reliable as possible, neither Icognitive Systems, Inc. nor myself (Ed Watkeys) are responsible for your Macintosh spontaneously combusting and turning into a mound a melted, bad-smelling plastic as a result of running Winker.
